Teresa Winter of Lincoln, NE, recently graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's of arts in Spanish from DeSales University.

DeSales University held its mid-year commencement Saturday, January 18, in Billera Hall on the Center Valley campus. During the ceremony, Rev. Bernard F. O'Connor, OSFS, president of DeSales University, conferred degrees upon 148 graduating students for January 2014, including 97 bachelor's and 51 master's.

In addition to the January 2014 degree recipients, DeSales awarded 214 degrees to students in September 2013, including 79 bachelor's, 130 master's, and 5 doctoratesa?"the first doctural graduates from the University. Because there is no formal ceremony in September, the September graduates may take part in the January commencement.

Anne M. Panik, MS, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, senior vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Lehigh Valley Health Network delivered the commencement address. Fern M. Strunk, former director of the University's health center, received the DeSales Medal, the highest nonacademic award conferred by the University in recognition of the outstanding contributions to the development of the University through personal service as well as financial support.

DeSales University, in Center Valley, Pa., is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. Founded by the Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales in 1965, the 480-acre suburban campus is located 50 miles north of Philadelphia and about 90 miles south of New York City. A total enrollment of nearly 3,000 includes undergraduate day and evening students and graduate students. DeSales offers more than 30 bachelor's degrees and seven graduate programs in a wide range of disciplines. The university also offers the ACCESS Program, the region's leading accelerated degree program for adults.
